Ministry Opportunities
Commission Goals
Listed below are the top four goals established by the Staff and Vestry for each of the six commissions of our church. Some of these goals are in the process of being completed, having been established in previous years. Things don’t “just happen”; it takes the intentional efforts of many to accomplish tasks. Ask yourself, “How might I best use my God given gifts/talents to help accomplish at least one of these goals?”
Worship Commission

expand the use of our new sound system

schedule an Instructed Eucharist
● establish a quiet time in the church before
services
● change the Prayers of the People
(Sundays)--more participation by congregation
Outreach Commission
●
advertise St.
Peter's as a "traditional" parish
●
explore more mutual ministry opportunities with Aldersgate
United Methodist Church
●
increase our ministry to Canterbury Center (college ministry) at
Old Dominion University
● explore world ministry opportunities
Fellowship Commission
●
Christian movie
nights - local theaters
●
monthly pot-luck dinners (similar to Wednesday Nights in Lent)
●
annual theme dinner - (i.e. Spaghetti Dinner)
● monthly Saturday morning breakfasts (themed,
guest speakers, entertainment)
Discipleship Commission
●
improve the new
member incorporation process
●
begin a Book Club - once a month
●
explore the use of The Marriage Enrichment Program
● Lay Leadership Training
Service Commission
●
begin an Altar
Flowers Delivery ministry to our hospital/homebound members
●
better promote the Card Ministry
●
transportation Ministry to worship/parish events for those in
need
● establish a Handy Man Ministry to those in
need (minor home repairs, cleaning, etc.)
Buildings and Grounds
●
form a Kitchen
Renovations Committee
●
construct a stage in the parish hall

update the youth room
● address outdoor drainage problems (sidewalks
and entrance ways)
